History of Cataula
from Cataula.com

Cataula bears a Creek Indian name which has been given two meanings. Some say that it means Big Rock; others say it means Dead Mulberry.

A likely spot for the original site of the settlement is a crossroads located five miles west of Cataula, and which has long been known as Mulberry Grove.

The Post Office has been in operation since March 29, 1836, when George W. Heared as postmaster. The present location is located about one mile south of the intersection of Hwy 27 & Hwy 315 east.
