About
The town of Pine Mountain,
located just one hour southwest of Atlanta, lies at the foothills of the
Appalachian Mountains and serves as the gateway to Callaway Gardens, which
hosts a variety of activities throughout the year. Pine Mountain captures
all the charm of a small Southern town, all the excitement and amenities
of a city and all the friendly faces you can imagine just waiting to share
their area with stoppers-by. Known for its quaint shops, history and
Southern cooking, the area is a vacationer's dream for relaxing and
enjoying the past. Pine Mountain Tourism Association (800) 441-3502

Past & Present Pine Mountain
Pine Mountain
(previously called Chipley) is bisected by a railroad line
running north and south through the town. The town also has a
historic, commercial district that includes restaurants,
hardware stores, antiques stores, as well as other types of
retail establishments. Pine Mountain's historic, residential
neighborhoods are located on both the west and east sides of the
railroad line and are typical of late-nineteenth century and
early-twentieth century neighborhoods: all are lined by mature
hardwood trees, sidewalks, and most of the houses have
consistent set-backs to the street. Pine Mountain also has
numerous circa 1940s-50s "motels" that are single
story and facilitate accommodations for tourists as well as adding
a great deal of town character.
